Microsoft Certifications No Longer Expire
Microsoft has been rapidly and extensively overhauling its certification program for the past two years. Previously, MCSE certs were good for three years, and MCSD certs required recertification after two years. That’s no longer the case. Last year, Microsoft announced the MCSA, MCSE, and MCSD certifications do not expire.
Instead, Microsoft initiated a new status system for its certifications Active or Legacy. “Active” certifications refer to two things. First, it means the exams needed to earn the exam aren’t retired. Second, it means that the product or service associated with the exam hasn’t reached the end of its life. As long as a certification is active, it means that the technology is relatively current.
“Legacy” certifications mean exactly the opposite. It means the product has reached its end of support life, which includes certifications for that technology. Importantly, legacy certifications aren’t expired. When a technology retires, the certification moves from the “Active” portion of the Microsoft Certified Professional Transcript to the “Legacy” section.
Last year, Microsoft also introduced a badge system for their Microsoft Certified Professional program. Learners have the option to take an elective exam each year to “re-earn” an annual badge on their transcript. This verifies that the candidate is keeping their skills current with changing technologies. Again, it’s not mandatory.

Why Do It Certifications Expire
The expiration of any IT certification solely depends on the certification vendor that hosted the certification exam for you. Many product-based certifications don’t expire. Suppose you are certified to use the Windows 7 platform then you will always have enough knowledge and skill even if a new operating system has been launched to carry on with its use.
But the skill-based certifications need to be renewed after some time or when they have expired. The very reason why the certifications expire is that the skill either got up to date and the technology is already getting better that is why you need a refresher case or revision in order to continue using your certification.
AWS certifications mainly last for only three years and the recertification process is simpler than most. You can either take the higher level of the same AWS certification that got expired or earn a higher-level certification from the AWS than the one that expired. Suppose you had the AWS architect certified solution that got expired then going for the AWS architect professional will get the job done for you and have the certification recertified.
There are some activities that you can sign yourself up for in order to get recertified, these might be the single activities as follows

How To Recertify Your Ccna Or Ccnp
Cisco requires that you recertify the CCNA or CCNP every three years. While that might seem daunting, you only have to pass one exam to recertify. And Cisco isn’t too picky about which one. They’ll accept one exam from any CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or specialist tracks.
It’s important to note that they don’t require you to earn another certification only pass an exam. For instance, if you wanted to retake the ICND2, that’s fine. However, CCT and ICND1 don’t count toward recertification.
It’s important to not let these certifications lapse. If you don’t recertify your CCNA or CCNP, Cisco sends you all the way back to ICND1. It’s a little different once you hit CCIE.

Why I’m Letting My It Certifications Expire
Technology and Cybersecurity leader. JD Candidate, UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law
The technology industry has relied on certifications to demonstrate knowledge for decades. I still remember the first cert I ever earned: “Distributed Applications with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0” when I was pursuing my MCSD back in the 90’s. And now, there are certifications available for every operating platform, programming language, methodology, and framework under the sun.
This year, I’ve made the decision to let all of my certs expire. Not because I don’t think they provide any value at all – they do – but that they have come to serve more as a gatekeeper to entering and prospering in the profession than any kind of proof of knowledge or proficiency in a particular skill.
For one recent certification I earned – and I’m not going to name and shame any particular organization here, as that’s not the point – the process looked something like this:
Buy test prep book: $75
Join national organization: $125
Join regional organization : $50
Pay test fee: $700
I also chose not to purchase any of the countless “boot camp” services offered, at a cost of several hundred dollars.
Doing the math here, that’s $1,000 for the initial cert, several hundred more dollars per year to maintain it, and that’s just for a single certification. Multiply that by any of the number of certs a person may choose to maintain, and this represents a several thousand dollar per year investment.
Is Becoming Certified Worth It
Businesses are becoming increasingly reliant on complex technologies, which in turn increases the demand for skilled IT professionals who can work with those technologies. Certifications give businesses the confidence of knowing that theyre hiring skilled IT professionals with real-world experience and in-depth knowledge, instead of recent graduates with little more than classroom experience.
IT certifications are essential for any professional looking to pursue other IT career opportunities or to gain essential IT skills in their current specialization.
