American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification provides lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over.
Lifeguard training candidates must be at least 15 years old, able to swim 300 yards without stopping using front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, and retrieve a 10-lb brick from 7 feet deep and swim 20 yards with the weight, using legs only and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute 40 seconds. Upon successful Lifeguard Training course completion participants will receive American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer valid for 2 years.
Water Safety Instructor Course
The purpose of the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses, six levels of Learn-to-Swim, three levels of Preschool Aquatics and two levels of Parent and Child Aquatics. Upon successful completion of the Water Safety Instructor course, the participant will receive an American Red Cross Universal Certificate indicating certification in Water Safety. Authorization is for 2 calendar years.
Swimming skills will be tested on the first day of class. Skills must be completed in order to continue. No exceptions and no refunds due to failure to complete prerequisites. Cancellation requests for class withdrawals must be received by the Recreational Services Membership Coordinator by the Registration/Cancellation deadline in order to receive a refund. To complete your certification you must successfully perform all required skills, complete and pass 3 final skill scenarios, and pass the written exam with a grade of at least 80%.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Review provides currently certified lifeguards the opportunity to review the new Lifeguard course materials/skills and renew their certification.
Upon successful completion of the Lifeguard Review candidates will receive American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer valid for 2 years.

Lifeguard Training Initial Certification & Waterfront
This course is intended for someone who does not have a current Lifeguard Certification, and prepares them to work at either a pool or a waterfront location. Waterfront Lifeguards learn the skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in non-surf, open-water areas found in public parks, resorts, summer camps and campgrounds. Candidates learn and demonstrate how to perform Waterfront Rescue Skills safely and effectively. Includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.

To Receive American Red Cross Certification Participants Must:
- Pass all course prerequisites,
- Attend all class sessions in their entirety,
- Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities,
- Demonstrate competency in the final skills scenarios, and
- Correctly answer 80% of the questions on the final written exam. Failure to meet the course prerequisites, attend all classes in their entirety, demonstrate competency in skills, or failure of the written test will result in forfeiture of class fees and certification will not be granted.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is designed to teach skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services take over. This class includes, Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED. Certification is current for 2 years. Candidates MUST pass a prerequisite swimming skill evaluation, attend all class dates & complete required online training .Prerequisite Swimming Skills Evaluation
- 300-yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
- Tread water using legs only for 2 minutes without support or stopping
- Within 1 minute and 40 seconds, swim 20 yards, surface dive to 7 10 feet and retrieve a 10lb brick. Return to surface and swim back to starting point with both hands holding brick and keeping face at the surface. Exit the water without using ladder or steps.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification Program Water Safety Instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age, able to demonstrate proficiency in six strokes Front crawl , back crawl , elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, and butterfly 25 yards per stroke and tread water for 1 minute.
Upon successful course completion, Water Safety Instructor candidates will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate valid for 2 years.

Cpr/aed For Professional Rescuer
The purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer program is to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children, and infants until more advanced medical personnel can take over.
To qualify for re-certification, certifications may not be more than 15 days lapsed. Refunds will only be issued to participants who have a written request two weeks prior to the start of class.
Additional fees to the American Red Cross are paid to the instructor on the first day of class. These fees are for the Certification and the Blended Learning portion of the course.
This class requires that you have a CPR Pocket Mask. You can either bring your own, or purchase one for an additional $20.

The American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers course trains professional rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over.
What is Blended Learning?
Students complete online training prior to participation in the hands-on skills demonstration. Documentation of completing the online training must be provided at the beginning of the skills demonstration. Both the online training and skills demonstration must be completed to obtain you certification.

Streamline Health Services offers American Red Cross blended learning courses, which consist of both online and classroom components. The American Red Cross online course will prepare participants for the Streamline Health Services classroom skills session and must be completed by the first class date.

Lifeguard & Water Safety Preparation
Red Cross lifeguarding students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class and pass a swimming skills test. Once students are enrolled, they’ll receive the latest science-based training from experienced instructors and develop skills they’ll use for a lifetime. Flexible training courses are available in person or via blended learning, which combines online coursework with in-person skills sessions. In addition to full courses, lifeguarding review courses are also available for those who hold current lifeguarding certifications or certification expired by no more than 30 days. Most training supplies or manuals needed to teach the courses can easily be found on the Red Cross Store.
