This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants and meets OSHA/workplace requirements.

This is a blended learning course including an online portion and an instructor-led classroom skill session. The online portion must be completed prior to attending the instructor-led classroom skills session. Proof of completion of the online portion must be presented at the start of the instructor-led classroom skills session.

1. How is the Childcare Provider course different from the Community Rescuer course?

The Childcare Provider course is an in-depth CPR, AED and First Aid course for those who work with children on a regular basis. This course is intended for childcare providers, teachers, coaches and parents. Additional childcare specific topics include: Dehydration, Drowning, Maltreatment of Children, and Indoor and Playground Safety.

2. Am I qualified to teach the Childcare Provider course?

EMS Safety Instructors outside the state of California are qualified to teach the CPR, AED and First Aid for Childcare Provider course. The University of Texas at San Antonio Campus Recreation is an Authorized Provider of the American Red Cross. We offer a variety of lifesaving courses throughout each semester. Completing a course results in an official American Red Cross certification via email.

Late Policy

If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the start of the class, you will not be permitted to complete the course and obtain certification. You can sign up and pay for another course at a later date. However, you will not receive a refund for your missed class time.

Refund Policy

Refunds or transfers to other classes are not allowed when the course is less than 48 business hours in advance for most courses . We cannot offer refunds once a course has started . Cancellations and transfers made 48 business hours in advance will result in a $20 administrative fee. Refunds are not given when participants fail prerequisite testing or have started prerequisites.

If a class is full, you can be added to a waitlist. If spot become available, we will notify participants in order of the waitlist. Often, openings happen at the last minute, so if you end up on the waitlist, please know that you may be called on the day of the course.

    Purpose: This course helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.

    1. What is the difference between the Community Rescuer and BLS for the Professional Rescuer programs?

    The BLS for the Professional Rescuer course is intended for healthcare, dental and emergency response professionals. Additional BLS topics include: 1- and 2-Rescuer Techniques, Team CPR, Pre-Hospital and Hospital Scenarios, Airway Management and Ventilation Devices.
